Welcome to EDLD 5315

As Fink (2013) states, “At some point, to be powerful performers in life as well as self-directed learners, students must learn how to assess the quality of their own work” (p. 103). This reflection provides me with an opportunity to evaluate my growth as a self-directed learner and my contributions to the learning community. Through this course, I have challenged myself to remain consistent with course expectations, take ownership of my learning, and collaborate meaningfully with my peers. Based on my level of engagement and contributions, I believe a score of 95 accurately reflects my efforts.

What Is Working

One of the most significant ways I have grown during this course is in the development of my literature review. With guidance and feedback from my previous professor as well as my current professor, I have learned how to refine my ideas and present them more effectively. I now have a deeper understanding of how to approach a literature review. Earlier in my academic journey, I struggled to differentiate between quoting and paraphrasing sources. Through consistent practice and feedback, I have improved my ability to integrate research effectively, using APA citations to strengthen my arguments.

I have also maintained steady engagement with all course materials, including readings, videos, and supporting resources. This has provided me with both breadth and depth of knowledge, which I have applied to my discussions and assignments. I revised my work thoughtfully, incorporating peer and instructor feedback, and reflected on those revisions to ensure continued growth.

Another aspect that has worked well is my participation in course discussion boards. I consistently posted on time, which gave others an opportunity to engage with my work. My posts were detailed, supported by research, and showed critical thinking. Beyond the required postings, I often engaged in additional discussions to encourage collaboration and to contribute to the collective learning environment.

What I Can Do Better

Although I am satisfied with my contributions, there are areas I can continue to improve. One area is making sure my links work. I have consistently met deadlines, but my links don't work. Really taking time and learning the programs that I use can really benefit me.

Additionally, I want to continue developing as a leader within my base group. While I actively contributed ideas and encouraged dialogue, I believe I could take a more proactive leadership role by helping to organize group discussions or initiating collaborative opportunities outside of assigned tasks. This would strengthen both my growth and the learning community as a whole.

Contributions to the Learning Community

Collaboration with my base group was a cornerstone of my learning experience throughout this entire program.

Through these collaborations, I not only shared my own insights but also benefited from their perspectives. Their feedback helped me refine my innovation plan and sharpen my research skills. For example, in discussions around connecting theoretical frameworks to practice, their questions pushed me to dig deeper into my sources and apply ideas more thoughtfully.

I also created a digital magazine for this course that highlights my favorite discussion board contributions. This project not only served as a creative way to reflect on key learning moments but also provided a resource that others can explore. I encourage the reader to check out my magazine for EDLD 5315 below, as it captures my learning journey and demonstrates how discussions shaped my growth. Special thanks to Alayna!

Reflection on Growth as a Self-Directed Learner

Overall, this course reinforced my identity as a self-directed and lifelong learner. I have become more confident in assessing the quality of my own work, especially when it comes to integrating feedback, improving my academic writing, and supporting my peers. By contributing consistently, collaborating openly, and reflecting honestly on areas for improvement, I am better prepared to continue my journey as both a learner and an educator.

Conclusion

For these reasons, I believe a score of 95 reflects my performance in this course. I met the majority of expectations outlined in the rubric, contributed actively to my learning and that of my peers, and demonstrated significant growth. While there are areas I will continue to strengthen, I am proud of the work I accomplished and the ways I contributed to the learning community.
