5304: Leading Organization Change
Throughout this course, Leading Organization Change, I’ve had the opportunity to dig deeply into what truly fuels my passion for educational innovation. As a virtual school counselor, my “Why” is rooted in the belief that every student—no matter how unconventional their learning path—deserves a tech-forward, socially connected, and emotionally supported educational experience. This belief guided the creation of my magazine project, which serves not only as a creative platform but also as a reflection of my mission: to break the isolation in virtual learning environments and replace it with purpose, connection, and innovation.
In developing my Influencer Strategy (Parts A & B), I identified the vital behaviors needed to reshape student engagement and influence organizational culture. These included ensuring all students were provided access to dynamic, tech-savvy electives and building a system of mentorship and recognition within virtual clubs. By identifying both personal and structural motivators, I created a vision where change could be sustainable and empowering.
The 4DX Plan gave structure and execution to that vision. Through the disciplines of focus, leverage, engagement, and accountability, I translated my big ideas into clear action steps for my team. Using lead and lag measures, a shared scoreboard, and regular WIG sessions, my innovation became not just a hopeful initiative, but a trackable strategy rooted in execution and progress.
But perhaps the most important shift occurred within myself—through the lens of self-differentiated leadership and the Crucial Conversations framework. I learned that to effectively lead change, I must remain calm, grounded, and principle-driven, especially when the stakes are high. Crucial Conversations taught me how to engage in meaningful dialogue without losing connection or control—how to stand firm in my purpose while still being open to others' truths.
To become a truly self-differentiated leader, I recognize the importance of emotional clarity, resilience, and boundary-setting. I must be able to hold steady when others are reactive, to model respectful discourse, and to stay aligned with mission over comfort. Crucial Conversations plays an essential role in this growth. It equips me to lead hard conversations—about isolation, equity, access, and expectations—with courage, empathy, and accountability. It is not only a skillset but a mindset that will carry over into how I lead my team, collaborate with stakeholders, and most importantly, advocate for students.
I hope readers enjoy my magazine that I created for this class that highlights the components of my Why, Influencer Strategy, 4DX Plan, and my growth in self-differentiated leadership.
